Prophecy of the Wolf
With the looming set of Prophecy of the Wolf to be released after the United Kingdom gains some normality after the current Coronavirus situation, I thought it would be a good time to look into some of the characters of this set and why they are key characters in the 40,000 Universe. This will take place over a few posts as we delve into each part of this set.
So, who is Ragnar Blackmane? Let's take a look:
His Background:
Ragnar was born on the planet Fenris, the homeworld of the Space Wolves Chapter. Raised by a nomadic tribe called the "Thunderfists" in the far reaches of the planet, even as a child he ran with young tribal warriors twice his own age - and his battle frenzy claimed a frightening tally of rival tribes' menfolk.
His audacity and ferocious spirit made Ragnar a suitable and almost perfect individual for induction into the Adeptus Astartes. His chance to join the "Sky Warriors" came when his tribe was locked in battle with another rival tribe as a Wolf Priest by the name of Ranek Icewalker watched on.
Being mortally wounded during the battle would not stop him, as he would receive the "Gene-Seed" organ implantation and painful transformation and ultimately dropped in the mountains of Fenris, and ordered to make his way back to The Fang (the Space Wolves Fortress Monastery) or die trying.
During this trial, he was being hunted by a Blackmaned Wolf - a creature with reputation that rivaled a daemon on Fenris - through the wilderness. Though it was many times his size, Ragnar managed to slay the beast with nought but his bare hands. He hauled it back to The Fang through the snowdrifts while experience pain and exhaustion.
The deed was one upon his arrival, earning him the totem and namesake of "Blackmane". Ragnar took the Blackmane Wolf's pelt to use as a cloak and along with it forever cementing his place in the legends of the sky warriors; The Space Marines.
